Back to Basics

Hello again! Thanks for coming back to my blog and welcome to my first official post. (Have you read the introduction yet?) I can't wait to start this journey of health and wellbeing with you! I will be writing two posts per week so please subscribe to this blog to be updated when a post goes live.

Before I get into the nitty gritty of health and nutrition, I want to teach you The Basics. These are things you should be doing every day. They will keep your body in great condition, your energy levels up and give you a general sense of wellbeing.

You may had heard these things a thousand times before. But I think it's worth reiterating them because of just how important they are for your health. There's no point in beginning a gruelling workout routine if you're not practicing The Basics of health and nutrition.

So, if you've decided you want to be healthier but are not sure where to begin, here are five simple tips to get you started.

1. Cut out the processed junk and go for whole, natural foods including plenty of fruit and veg. At least five portions a day will keep you feeling energised and alert.

2. Drink two litres of water daily to keep your fluid levels topped up and avoid dehydration. Drink a glass when you wake up, a glass before every meal and keep a bottle around at all times to sip throughout the day.

3. Exercise for 30 minutes, three times a week. Every day if you can. You might not always feel like it, but breaking a sweat is an ideal way to maintain a healthy body and happy mind. Exercise releases feel-good chemicals called endorphins which give you a natural high.

4. Go to bed early and get enough sleep. You should aim to catch around eight hours' worth of ZZZs per night. Turn off the TV, the laptop and your smartphone and get to bed!

5. Don't put toxins into your body. Smoking is the worst thing you can do, so take action and do what's right for your health...stop it!

These are my five basic tips for all-round better health and vitality. If you find this all a bit daunting, don't try to take on everything at once. Start just by going for a gentle walk or eating some salad with your lunch and gradually work up from there. When you start to eat better foods, sleep well and exercise often, not only will you be'll actually look better and feel more confident too. What's not to like about that?
