Product Review: Cho! Drinking Gazpacho

'The Salad in a Bottle'

Gazpacho is a traditional Spanish dish and it's literally a soup that's eaten cold. Cho! had the clever idea of putting their gazpachos into a bottle so they can be consumed on the go. As I'm a fan of soup, I was curious to try this new drink for myself.

Cho! gazpacho is made by hand in the hills of Andalucia by blending whole fruits and vegetables with extra virgin olive oil. It comes in three flavours: tomato & peppers (clasico), beetroot & apple, and tomato & strawberry.

After tasting all three flavours, I have to say that my favourite was the Clasico because it was a more savoury, 'normal' taste for a soup, that I'm used to. The tomato & strawberry confused my taste buds – I like both tomatoes and strawberries, but I've never had both in my mouth at the same time before. It reminded me of when I first tried a peanut butter and jam sandwich – my tongue couldn't understand what was going on with the sweet and savoury flavours all mixed in to one. I could definitely get used to it though. The beetroot & apple was also nice, but again confusing for a tongue that had never tasted those two flavours combined before.

I love the packaging – it has a fun Spanish feel and would definitely catch my eye on a supermarket shelf. The bottles are glass so can be reused or recycled, which is always good. I also love that the gazpacho has very few ingredients, and no artificial ones. The Clasico flavour, for example, only contains tomatoes, mountain spring water, red and green peppers, extra virgin olive oil, bread, garlic, sea salt, cumin, sherry vinegar, lemon juice and pectin.

I think Cho! gazpacho would be great to have as a drink with your lunch, a quick filling snack or, for a more satisfying meal, decant it into a bowl and eat with a few chunks of bread.
