Lace Up for Bones!

Did you know that three million people in the UK suffer from osteoporosis, a condition which causes bones to fracture and break easily? I was personally shocked to discover that one in two women and one in five men over the age of 50 will break a bone, mainly because of poor bone health.

World Osteoporosis Day is on 20th October 2015 and The National Osteoporosis Society (the only UK charity dedicated to ending the pain and suffering caused by osteoporosis) have designed some special orange laces to raise money for the charity and get as many people 'lacing up for bones' as possible!

All you have to do is buy a pair of laces for just £2 (or £8.99 for the special 'greeper' laces that never come undone), swap them for your usual laces and get outside and exercise. Running, walking, skipping, dancing and team sports are all effective for keeping your bones healthy and strong.

As you can see, I put my laces in an old, plain black pair of trainers I had almost stopped wearing. However, I think they jazz them up so much that I've been wearing them all the time since! They really make a statement and whenever anyone mentions them I get to talk about the charity.

You can buy your own laces and get behind the campaign at and use the hashtag #laceupforbones to spread the word on Twitter and Instagram.

You can also text LACE11 to 70070 to donate £2.

To reduce the risk of osteoporosis, combine exercise with a diet rich in calcium and vitamin D.
